I didn’t have high expectations when I did the phone interview with Wanna. She seems like just another pretty face on TV and digital platforms and temporary. So, I was surprised when she talked so openly about the bleakness of the local entertainment scene.

It’s not a secret, pretty faces have little staying power in the Malaysian entertainment business. But, to hear that there are producers who prefer follower numbers over actual talent was surprising. I didn’t know it was that bad.

Like many young actresses and aspiring stars, Wanna also looked at the entertainment business as a stepping stone, not a career. I also found it strange that despite being passionate about music when she was in school, Wanna did not pursue that career.

Maybe it’s because there is little money in it.

That title and sub-title was not my idea. It misses the whole point of the story.
