Showbusiness is all about business

This was the first interview, in a series of interviews, where I asked local celebrities about their attitude towards the local movie and tv scene. The answer is almost always the same, they all look at the local entertainment scene as a stepping stone.

Acting is just a gateway to popularity, an asset they cultivate on digital platforms. And once the entertainment scene has chewed them up and spit them out, they turn into entrepreneurs.
The reality is the local entertainment scene in as shallow as the TV dramas and movies that it has produced. It’s not about the art any more, it’s all about the follower numbers, the likes, the shares, the comments. It’s superficial.

However, some still champion the arts for the sake of the art. But they are so few.
Who is at fault? The producers who took the easy way by hiring pretty faces regardless of talent? Is it the audience who flock only to the lowest common denominator and does not appreciate the art? Is it systemic in the system?

I don’t know, but what I do know is that a good story is hard to find.
