Apple Watch Series 6 – We need to know more

The ability to measure Oxygen saturation or SpO2 is the most touted feature of Apple’s next wearable. It beats out the new brains of the watch, the S6 System in a Package (SiP).

Like the many sensors on even the current Apple Watch, knowing your body stats is cool and all, but without context, telling me that my Blood Oxygen level is at 98% doesn’t mean much.

However, this data is useful when Apple joins forces with researchers to conduct studies. And of course, to doctors. Every bit of data helps when diagnosing a patient.

As for the S6 SiP, of course, it will have better performance, connectivity, and features compared to its predecessor, but there is no mention of battery life in the official announcement. This is especially curious with the Apple Watch Series 6 having a brighter display, always-on altimeter, extra sensors and the introduction of the sleep monitoring app in Watch OS7.

The new colours and strap options look fun, but I am sceptical about the Solo Loop. It does not seem practical especially for someone like me, who often take off the watch for one reason or another. I’ll have to experience the Solo Loop for myself, else I’ll stick to the Sport Loop.

In Malaysia, the price for the Apple Watch Series 6 starts at RM1,749 for the 40mm version and RM1, 899 for the 44mm version. Both with aluminium case and a basic band. Add RM1,250 and RM1,350 respectively if you want the Stainless-Steel version.

Personally, I’m eyeing that 44mm aluminium Apple Watch Series 6. Not just to upgrade, based on what we know of the Series 6, I don’t think it warrants an upgrade, but getting one means I can hand down the Series 5.
