
After interviewing a string of musicians, Azmyl’s name began to pop up in my recommendations. Desperate for a new subject to write about, I sent him a message requesting an interview before I did any research about him.
The editorial did not care about quality, only numbers. And at the same time, I trusted the recommendations. I am glad I did.
Azmyl is the type of talent that we need more in Malaysia. A kind of talent that was once prevalent, but now has been relegated to the independent scene. A talent with a brain. An academic.
His music is deceptively simple. However, if listened closely, his genius shines through. From his choice of words, to how he pronounces whose words, and from the music to the music video, Azmyl put a lot of thought into them.
In the story, the editorial has removed all of the links I have written in that points to Azmyl’s stuff. In fact, the story never made it to the paper’s website. So, let me share those links here instead.
