Mom hadn’t had any major issues using the iPhone SE for the last couple of months. She is still not used to closing all the apps, navigating the many layers of the phone app is still confusing for her, and she “accidentally” subscribed to Apple Music once, not knowing what it is.

However, the screen is cracked. Despite the casing and the screen protector, she manages to crack the screen. It looked bad.

Of course, she doesn’t know who, what, when, where, why, and how it happened. Nevertheless, she still manages to find conspiracy videos and disliking politicians out of the blue.

Solution: I need iPhones to have a simplified and locked down kids/elderly mode and I need to get the toughest practical casing and screen protector for the iPhone SE that I can find. I can’t do anything about the UI, but I could go online and buy an OtterBox casing and screen protector. So, I did.

After peeling off the old screen protector and casing and giving the iPhone SE a wipe, I saw that the iPhone was still in pristine condition. The damage was absorbed by the case and the screen protector, despite how it looked initially.

I upgraded the armour on my mom’s iPhone SE with the OtterBox Achiever Series Case and the OtterBox Alpha Glass screen protector. And they were not cheap.

I picked the Achiever Series because of the price and design. I would have picked a tougher casing, but I got to draw the line somewhere when it comes to how much I can spend and how the case looks. It has to look novel enough that my mom won’t forget where she put it.

The case has two components and feels tougher and more substantial than any phone casing that I have ever used before. I feel that I get what I paid for here. The screen protector, however, did not go on as smoothly as I had hoped. As expensive as it is, the coverage is not great. That said, I hope it can survive my mom. And only if it does will the price is justified.
