Who would have thought that there was a Malaysian based in New York who has been making movies and winning awards. I didn’t. Then one day, Ariff AB introduced me to Dharius Zulkefli, who is now back in Malaysia because of the pandemic.

I wished we did this interview in person, and I bet he has a lot of stories to tell if we did. Instead, we did the whole thing via email. On top of that, I had to put him in NextGen. It is an easy-to-do-Q&A format column, but that is just it. It’s too simple and basic for a story like Dharius.

Almost everything we talked about made it into the story. However, the story lacks Dharius’s emphasis on how his family’s appreciation for movies drove him to strive in the movie industry.
