This was one of those interviews that ended in the most unexpected ways. I started the interview trying to find out how a 28-year-old ended up being the founder of a premium fashion jewellery company registered in France. What I got was a glimpse at how a young woman made her dream come true from almost nothing.

From the beginning of the interview, Sammy hinted at the hard life that she has been though. She did not come from a rich family; she did not have a safety net to fall back to. But at 22, and partially out of necessity, she started a business selling Titanium jewellery with only RM200 in her pocket.

Perhaps it was luck. In 2014, e-commerce was still in its infancy here in Malaysia, the playing field was still relatively level. And Sammy was enthralled by it. At the same time, she learned all she could while working at a premium jewellery store. It was a job, but she took in the knowledge like an apprentice. She was just 19 at the time.

With encouragement from a friend who was already in the field of e-commerce, she built the company from the ground up. She made up a name for it, made a logo for it in MS Paint, learn a bit of coding, and learn a bit of photo editing.

When she launched, she nabbed the title of Malaysia’s first female titanium jewellery brand. Immediately Celovis Titanium Jewellery fit snugly in the space between expensive fine jewellery and throw away costume jewellery. The designs looked luxurious while the prices are affordable.

There is always something new every month. Once in a while, she adds something innovative in the collection too. Currently, there are jewellery for pets, for pet lovers, and jewellery with a synthetic stone that projects a secret message when light is shone through it.

Although she has a shop at one of the most premium malls in the heart of KL, Pavilion, Sammy says that her heart is still in e-commerce. It paid off during the lockdown as she saw business from online sales increase each time there is a lockdown.
