Technically we never spoke to each other. The interview with Masya Masyitah was done through her manager via voice messages. Her answers never strayed from the path she already established with previous interviews which was disappointing. You can see it in the last question in the interview.
Despite being able to sing in mandarin, and making a name for herself in China, Masya is not that fluent in English. Her manager requested that I sent the questions in Malay and her recorded answers were in Malay as well.
I can hear that she was tense at first, she was conscious of her answers. But when she answered more questions, her Northern accent began to show.
In a full-duplex interview, I would take that as the cue to ask more relaxed but probing questions. Questions that would lead to answers that she has never shared before. An answer that would make the story. Admittedly, a story that would have been wasted on Next Gen.
