All-new iMac: A tablet in desktop form

The iMac has never looked and sounded this good before, and you would too if you have the new iMac that Apple just announced. It is touted as having the best camera, mics, and speaker ever in a Mac.

But, what is most striking about the new iMac is it comes in 7 colours (green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver) and it is only 11.5mm thin. It literally looks like a 24in tablet on a stand. It is mind boggling how it does not have a touch screen. And how the M1 chip made it possible, of course.

The face of the new iMac is the 14in 4.5k Retina display with 11.3 million pixels, 500 nits of brightness, and over a billion colours. There is also a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, studio-quality mics, and a six-speaker sound system.

Combine it all with Big Sur and the whole package seems to be designed to not only work hard, but play hard as well. Imagine watching movies, playing games, and doing video calls on one of these.

How long do you think before Apple makes an iMac that can lean down and flat and gets support for the Apple Pencil?

Speaking of accessories, Apple also announced three models of Magic Keyboard (with Touch ID option for the first time on a Mac), Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad, in all the colours of the new iMac.

iMac with 7-core GPU starts at RM5,599 and RM5,379 for education, and is available in green, pink, blue, and silver. It features a 7-core CPU, 8GB of unified memory, 256GB SSD, two Thunderbolt ports, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Mouse.

iMac with 8-core GPU starts at RM6,449 and RM6,019 for education, and is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.
