Finally, Green Mario is getting his due with the soon to be release LEGO Adventures with Luigi Starter Course. Although it looks to be more of the same, Green Mario has more potential for comedy.

Set 71387 will be released on August 1 and comes with a LEGO Luigi. He is an exact copy of his twin brother LEGO Mario when it comes to playability, compatibility, and dimensions. However, he looks and sounds greener.

The set also bring with it some new additions to the LEGO Super Mario experience. Green Mario can get coins by completing the spinning seesaw challenge, interact with Pink Yoshi, and defeating Boom Boom and a Bone Goomba.

There are also brown-bricks that represents the Tower biome that will trigger a new sound, and a ‘?’ block with surprises.

As a LEGO, Nintendo, and Mario fan, I like the idea of the LEGO Super Mario universe. The addition of Green Mario is a wonderful surprise.

However, in practice all I want from a LEGO Super Mario universe set are the characters and iconic objects from the video game in LEGO form. I want dioramas, models, minifigs, big figs, playsets. You know, Super Mario in LEGO form.

I love the idea of the interactivity, but if I or a kid wants to play Super Mario, we’d pull out a Nintendo Switch. If we want to build levels, we’d start Super Mario Maker 2. The point is, I am still not sure who this set, and all the sets in LEGO Super Mario universe is for.

But, what do I know. The series is still getting expansions. Unlike Hidden Sides (I’ll miss you Luigi’s Haunted Mansion).

Also, Green Mario has the exact same dimensions as Mario. I wished they made it a brick taller and skinnier. That’s a proper Luigi. But I guess that means that it would not be compatible with the other costumes. So, maybe just a brick taller instead?
