Perhaps it was because I reverted to using the included paper instructions instead of the app or perhaps it is because I already had some experience from building the Grave Digger, but I found the experience of building Max-D more fun.
The Max-D shares the same price tag with the Grave Digger, RM89, but has more pieces, 230 instead of 212. Most of the pieces goes into details that I think makes Max-D the better of the two sets.
Set 42119 is a 2-in-1. The main build is the titular Max-D while the secondary build is an ATV.
I liked the Grave Digger set, but the build experience was not grate because I used the 3D build instructions in the Instructions app. Also, the completed set looks plain. Remove the stickers and it would look like any monster truck. It could be a Necron monster truck with all the green black and grey.
However, the Max-D was different. It has a more outlandish look. Although the resulting construct it is further from the real truck than the Grave Digger is, it still looked interesting. It could easily be a monster truck from a post-apocalyptic world. I feel the shaping is better too. It looks good with or without the stickers.
That said, both LEGO Technic Monster Jam models looks good together. And their price makes picking up both at the same time an attractive proposition.
Although the pullback motor feature is fun, I would trade it in for remote steering, suspension, or other Technic build mechanical feature.
