After the sting of picking up The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter (LEGO 75325) for RM300 just to complete a collection, the thought of getting a new LEGO set was unappealing.
The set was difficult to find and to me the price tag should have been closer to RM200.
Then came the Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck (LEGO 76989). I like the game series (despite its flaws) and the set looks gorgeous (despite the blatant re-marketing).
What pushed me over the edge was that I could get this RM420 (retail) set for RM320 online, shipped.

LEGO appropriately put the set under the LEGO Creator Expert series. The build process is a level up from a standard set, the details are beautiful, and making it a playable diorama is a nice touch.
It was interesting how the base is build with the studs on the side. With only a few studs at the top, layers were added to make it look like a long abandoned trail.
I especially like the details LEGO put in the build manual. The first few pages talked about the set, the world of Horizon, and the designer. I wished there was more to read.

Although the set is marketed as Horizon Forbidden West, it was clearly designed based on Horizon Zero Dawn — Arguably the better game in the series.
You can see it for yourself by downloading the LEGO Builder app.
From what Aloy’s costume and the addition of a Watcher, to the base, it all suggests that this scene was set in Zero Dawn instead.

The proportions of the Tallneck itself is fine, but I think that the head should be bigger, for it to match the proportions of the machine in the game.
For the price I paid, the set is a bargain and I cannot complain. I also appreciate that the 1222 piece build made me slow down, forget everything else, and focus, with breaks between every bag (there were eight).
For those who are not fans of the game, the Tallneck is a unique model in LEGO’s extensive catalogue. Being both organic and mechanical, it stands out in a collection, and being a diorama, displaying it is easy too. Just mind the height.

For it’s retail price, I think the Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck (LEGO 76989) is worth it, especially for LEGO fans who are looking for something different and more adventurous.
