It has been almost a full year since Apple Fitness+ was launched in Malaysia. It is possibly the only Apple feature that we have that Singapore doesn’t.

Recently Apple announced that all iPhone users in 21 countries that has Fitness+ will no longer need an Apple Watch to join the workout subscription programme.

In fact, you will get a free three months subscription to Fitness+ if you purchase an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. You can read the full press release on Apple Newsroom.

Apple’s move to let more of it’s users join Fitness+ makes sense from a business and practical angle. Perhaps the next step is to make it available on other platforms, like Apple TV+.

The downside is, without an Apple Watch, users won’t get those useful real time health readings (such as how hard they are workingout) and motivational reminders to work out.

They’ll also be missing out on the Time To Walk, Time To Run, and Audio Meditation features that are still exclusive to the Apple Watch.

In fact, I think there’s nothing that would stop folks from just launching a workout of the Fitness App and let it fill their rings while they sit on the couch.

To get Fitness+, you’ll need to update to iOS 16.1 which will be released in Malaysia on 25 October.

The same day Fitness+ is adding a lot of exciting work outs to its catalogue:

  • Artist Spotlight workout featuring music from “Midnights” by Taylor Swift.
  • Yoga for Every Runner featuring Scott Jurek and led by Fitness+ Yoga trainer Jessica Skye.
  • Time to Walk with:
    • Emmy-winning actor Hannah Waddingham.
