Can The Haven Make This World’s First Concert Happen?

A badly done mock-up of how it will look like.

The idea came from the big boss himself: to celebrate the return of the tourism industry, hold a musical event.

But Peter Chan, the CEO, doesn’t want just any ordinary concert. He wanted to take full advantage of The Haven All-Suite Resort’s unique geography.

The Haven All Suites Resort CEO, Peter Chan.

Located in Ipoh, Perak, approximately 15 minutes from the city, The Haven is made up of three main towers that crescents a natural lake on one side with forest covered limestone mountains on the other.

What could possibly make this event a first in the world is Chan’s idea of making the whole resort a stage.

His plan is to not only place musicians on the lake’s centre stage but in the balconies of the towers, in the forest, and in the limestone formations surrounding it.

This “first-of-its-kind” three nights concert is described in marketing speak as “Sensurround”.

Headlining the event is the Selangor Symphony Orchestra which is led by Eugene Pook (conductor) and accompanied by mezzo—soprano Jiayao Sun, international violinist Dr Hyundai Kim, and Malaysian singer, Asyraf Farhan Adi Zaini.

The most intriguing part of the event is how are they going to keep the musicians that are spread all over the place, synchronised. There’s a reason why an orchestra is always placed around and facing the conductor.

The acoustic of the location will be interesting as well. Would we be able to hear the musicians without amplification? Should they use amplification?

On top of all, that this year’s monsoon season is expected to start in November. The Haven Musical Extravaganza is scheduled to be held at 8PM on 27, 28, and 29 October.

Without the opportunity to speak to anyone about the technicalities and the logistics of the concert, the only way I could find out is to attend it myself.

Tickets to the concert are sold in packages which includes accommodation and breakfast. Prices start at RM390 per person with an option to add an international dinner buffet for RM75 per person.

These packages are available for purchase from The Haven’s website.
