Apple Fitness+ is adding some spice to its workout programmes this year with the launch of a new total-body cardio workout type, on Monday, 9 January 2023.
Those who’ve been working out with Apple Fitness+ would know that Fitness+ trainer Jamie-Ray Hartshorne has been sneaking in some kicks, punches, and dosages into his HIIT workout sessions.
Add to that the ever-increasing popularity of Muay Thai and it was only a matter of time before Kickboxing became its own workout type on Fitness+.
Joining Jamie-Ray in leading the Kickboxing workouts is a fellow Muay Thai competitor Nez Dally who is the first woman to compete in Thailand wearing a hijab.
According to apple, each workout will consist of a distinct round of moves followed by one final round, which will combine the moves users just learned into an all-out one-minute interval. No equipment is required, and workouts will be 10, 20, or 30 minutes long.
This sounds similar to the 30-minute choreography-style Dance workout that’s already on Fitness+. Perhaps it’ll fill the gap between the beginner-friendly Dance and the challenging HITT workouts on the platform.
Meet Brian & Jenn
The Fitness+ trainer team is growing as well with the addition of ‘Brian Cochrane’ to the HIIT team and Jenn Lau to the ‘Strength squad’.
Cochrane is an athlete and a former singer in an indie band from Scotland. Perhaps we will see him in the Dance workouts as well?
Lau on the other hand co-founded a gym in her hometown of Toronto. So she knows her stuff.
Meditate To Sleep
Meditation has to be the feature I use the least on Fitness+ because I substitute it with Salah instead. But even I find the new Meditation theme, Sleep, intriguing. It will be the 10th theme in the Meditation library.
Apple says that New sleep meditations will be added every week, and each practice can be done as part of a wind-down routine or while drifting off.
To start Fitness+ is also introducing a new programme, Introduction to Meditations for Sleep. The programme consists of four 20-minute meditations that conclude with five minutes of relaxing music.
Workout To Beyoncé
Also coming on 9 January are seven new workouts across Cycling, Dance, HIIT, Pilates, Strength, Treadmill, and Yoga featuring music by Beyoncé. This includes songs from her latest album, RENAISSANCE.
Fitness+ will also roll out two additional Artist Spotlight offerings: the Foo Fighters on Monday, 16 January; and Bad Bunny on Monday, 23 January.
Personally, I’m looking forward to Foo Fighter.
Want To Walk With Jamie Lee Curtis, Amber Ruffin, Jason Segel, & More?
Time to Walk on Apple Fitness+ is like a podcast that features interesting and influential people, who share stories, photos, and music while they are walking. The program itself is meant to be listed while walking.
This season, Fitness plus is introducing new episodes with Jamie Lee Curtis (actor), Amber Ruffin (comedian), Jason Segel (actor), José Andrés (Spanish chef and founder of the World Central Kitchen), Nina Hoss (German actress), Colman Domingo (actor, writer, and director), Nathan Chen (US figure skater), and Sheryl Lee Ralph (actor and singer).
Episodes of Time To Walk average approximately 30 minutes, including the three songs at the end. I usually don’t always find stories of American celebrities interesting, but with over 70 episodes already in the library, I can always find something good.
Two New Collections
On Fitness+ Collections are like curated programmes built on certain goals. This month, two new Collections are added to Fitness+.
6 Weeks to Restart Your Fitness, is the starting point for those who are looking to make working out a habit. This collection will be available on 9 January.
Level Up Your Core Training is, as it says on the tin, for those who that to take their core workouts to the next level. It features 10- and 20-minute core workouts with the use of dumbbells. This collection will be available on 23 January 23.
