Synology DS223 Is A 2-Bay NAS For The Home

Synology announced the availability of the 2-bay DiskStation DS223, the latest addition to its lineup of essential storage servers for the home and home office.

Powered by the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, the DS223 comes with a complete host of data management solutions.

Private cloud

The DS223 supports up to 36 TB of raw storage (size depends on the number of drives and RAID configuration) and can consolidate files from various sources.

One of the tools included is Synology Photos, a software that organises and automatically sorts multimedia files. Through secure sharing options, these files could be shared with family and friends. It also supports RAW file formats for professional creatives.

The DS223 could also be integrated with popular cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive.

Files on the device can be accessed from a PC, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, Android, iOS, or any device equipped with a browser.

For Backups

The DS223 can be set up for real-time or scheduled backups of computer folders. On mobile devices, users can configure Synology Photos to automatically upload photos and videos to their private cloud, in addition to or instead of the device maker’s cloud service.

Backups and other data stored on the server are kept using the Btrfs file system, which prevents data corruption and provides the ability to restore files to a previous version.

There are also built-in backup solutions for the DS223 itself. The entire system or specific shared folders can be backed up to a variety of destinations. Near-continuous protection is also available through snapshots.

Surveillance Station

With Synology Surveillance Station, the DS223 can become a video management system. Flexible ONVIF support and more than 8,300 validated IP cameras make deployment simple.

It supports multiple platforms through Windows and Mac clients and mobile apps.

Availability

The DS223 is available now through Synology partners and resellers. No MSRP was provided.
