While browsing Apple-published apps on the App Store I stumbled across an old gem, the only game listed on the App Store that has Apple as its publisher.
According to the blurb, it was brought back to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the App Store back in 2008.
The game is called Texas Hold’em. A poker-style gambling game that uses full-motion video players. That means the dealer and the other players at the table were played by actors.
The look of the game, which combines clean pre-rendered backgrounds with FMV cut out of players gives it a classic look of games from back in the heyday of multimedia CDs. Despite the retro look, the game does require a strategy to play and has some depth to it.
What surprised me the most is it is a gambling game. Although it doesn’t use real money and is not plagued with micro transactions, an Apple-published gambling simulator feels out of place.
