Plagued with hero characters that constantly make bad decisions, plot conveniences, and Marvelitis (undercutting every moment with quips and jokes) LEGO Elves: Secrets of Elvendale is unlike any other LEGO animation in style, but also the quality of storytelling.
Based on The LEGO Group’s attempt to create a fantasy theme using LEGO Friends, the animation of LEGO Elves: Secrets of Elvendale has almost no LEGO elements. There are some bits here and there, but most of it looks like American anime.
Despite having only 8, 24-minute episodes, I was having a difficult time finishing every single one of them. The story was tiresome. I especially hated that some of the protagonists were so horny for the antagonist. They say they want to be “friends”, but friends don’t physically react like that to each other. It’s all hormones.
The LEGO Elves theme itself lasted for four years, from 2015 to 2018. I’ve always seen them on shelves but never saw anyone buying them. The LEGO Friends system it was based on still lives on til today.
