When discussing professional workhorse cameras, Fujifilm is rarely a part of the conversation. An aversion to full-frame sensors, a leaning towards colour sciences, and smartphone-like features put Fujifilm cameras in a league of their own.
However, come 29 June, the Japanese camera maker will release the capable X-S20 mirrorless camera with vlogging and webcam capabilities.
Still sticking to their principles, the Fujifilm X-S20 has an older APS-C sized, 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor paired with a newer X-Processor 5. The result is to create a compact interchangeable lens camera with a great form that leverages processing power to enhance its list of features.
In addition to its AI-based subject-detection AF and the ability to record 6.2K/30P, this upcoming release from Fujifilm also touts approximately 750 frames on a single charge (in standard mode using the LCD), a five-axis in-body image stabilisation, and accessories like a fan attachment for more extended video recording session.
The obligatory (and admittedly nostalgic) film simulation modes are included as well (of course).
Beyond the professional consumer-level features, what intrigued me about the X-S20 is its vlogging and webcam capabilities. Combine the TG-BT1 tripod grip, 3.5mm audio jack, and Vlog Mode, which transfer some controls to the touch screen, in addition to the ability to use Fujifilm’s X-series lenses, and it becomes quite an attractive package.
For those who want that ultrawide phone look (which is also perfect for vlogging there’s the new XF8mm F3.5 R WR lens, and for fast transfer to mobile, the Fijifilm XApp.
The X-S20 can even become a webcam with a USB-C cable and no additional software.
All in all, I think it’s an excellent package for aspiring young content creators.
About that price tag. It’s not bad, either. The Fujifilm X-S20 is available for preorder now (with many gratuity gifts to complete the set, of course). The body (only) is RM6,888. Add an XC 15-45mm, which goes up to RM7,388. Add an XC 18-55mm, and the price is RM8,888.
As a reference, the top of the line 50mm prime lens equivalent on the X-Series is the XF35mm F2 R WR (RM1,875).
