Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G Is A Fast Charging Portrait Shooting Mid-Ranger

The Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G is the middle entry in Oppo’s portrait-centric Reno 10 series of devices. It is built on the Qualcomm SM7325 Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset and has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 256 GB of storage, and 12GB of memory.

Its most marketed feature is its portrait-taking capabilities. The Reno10 Pro 5G does this with its 50MP f/1.8 24mm with OIS, 32MP f/2.0 47mm 2x zoom, and 8MP F/2.2 ultrawide cameras. It also has a 32MP f/2.4 22mm selfie camera.

Other notable features of the Reno10 Pro 5G are its in-display fingerprint reser, fast charging compatible 4.6Ah battery, and Android 13-based ColorOS 13.

A Mid-Range Experience

From its packaging to how the software is set up and to everyday use, the Reno10 Pro 5G says mid-range. The thin card cutout where the phone rests in the box contrasts with the premium packaging that the phone came in.

Apart from the distinctive camera island at the back of the device, the rest shares the same design language as a Samsung from a couple of generations ago, which, I must note, is not bad.

Putting on the included silicone cover dampens the jewel-like finish of the Reno10 Pro 5G and reduces the protrusion of the camera island.

Setting up the Reno10 Pro 5G was a standard affair. However, I did not appreciate the large number of games and apps that are preinstalled. It’s common in a mid-range Android device, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it. On top of that, the Game Centre and App Market keep serving ads. Turning these off and removing unwanted apps will improve the device’s performance and battery life.

Not Just For Portraits

The camera is more than good enough for social media. I find the colours in photos taken with the Reno10 Pro 5G a little muted and lean towards the warm side, which is preferable to overprocessing and artificial pop. When shooting in sunlight, I wished the display was brighter and more vibrant. Also, the beauty filter on selfies is turned on by default. Again, it’s expected, and I wouldn’t say I like it.

The 0.6x, 2x, 3x, and 5x options are helpful, and I’m glad they are there. The results vary but are negligible on social posts. I advise staying away from the 5x unless it’s an emergency.

The best thing about the Reno10 Pro 5G camera is the portrait mode. Portrait implies headshots, but this mode can do much more. The Reno10 Pro 5G did an excellent job differentiating the subject I’m shooting and its background. It’s perfect for shooting food, toys, flowers, products, sculptures, and other things, not just faces.

Fast Charging & Other Notable Features

I’m impressed at how fast the device can go from flat to full. A quick charge during a day of heavy use is worthwhile. But it comes at the cost of a bulky charger and stiff charging cables.

It’s small, but I like how the Reno10 Pro 5G can be used as a remote in a pinch. I can see it helpful at home when travelling or at work. It can be a lifesaver when the remote is missing or not working.

As for performance, I got no complaints, especially after cleaning out the device of unwanted apps, and that process took a while.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

If RM2,199 fits your budget, you’re someone who takes your time composing your photos and appreciates fast charging. Look no further. The Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G should be on your list. It comes in purple and grey, which looks good in natural light.

However, if you have a little extra money to spare, peek at the Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G. It’s gorgeous.
