Oppo Reno10 Pro+ 5G — The Better Experience

The Oppo Reno10 Pro+ 5G is the premium entry in the portrait-centric Reno10 range of Android devices. It has a 6.74-inch AMOLED display, is built on the Qualcomm SM8475 Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, and in Malaysia, it has 12GB of memory with 256GB of storage.

It has three rear cameras: a 50MP main with an f/1.8 24mm OIS lens, a 64MP telephoto with an f/2.5 3x zoom OIS lens, and an 8MP ultrawide with an f/2.2 lens. The front camera is a 32MP sensor with an f/2.4 22mm lens.

The Oppo Reno10 Pro+ 5G has a fast charging compatible 4.7Ah battery. It has an in-display fingerprint reader, supports facial recognition, and can be used as an IR remote control. The device comes in grey, purple and gold.

What’s The Plus For?

This was what I expected the Reno10 Pro 5G to be. Everything about the Reno10 Pro+ 5G should have been the baseline for the series. It got the moulded pulp insert, the gorgeous back panel, an opaque silicone cover that matches the device, fewer junk apps, and no advertising pop-ups.

The Reno10 Pro+ 5G looks very similar to the Reno10 Pro 5G, which looks like a Samsung phone from a couple of generations ago. However, the pill-shaped camera island distinguishes the Reno10 devices from other brands.

In natural lighting, the back panel of the grey Reno10 Pro+ 5G I got for review looked like the finish of a freshly polished supercar. It’s lovely that covering it up with the included case feels wrong.

With fewer preinstalled apps, I give this device extra points. But it would have gotten full marks for usability if it had none. Cleaning up the junk would improve usability and performance.

The Better Camera

The Reno10 Pro+ 5G camera goes beyond ‘more than good enough for social’ to a camera I would use to take photos at an event and post in full resolution online, including Zoom photos.

The colours look brilliant, the tones are closer to nature, and the images are sharper. With portrait mode, even boring subjects can look attractive. It can do so much more than taking headshots too.

All that photo-taking and social media posting would inevitably drain the battery. That’s where fast charging is worthwhile. The Oppo Reno10 Pro+ 5G can go from flat to full in a coffee break. But it comes at the cost of a large charger and a stiff charging cable. Use anything that is not up to specifications, and that fast charging is not optimal.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

Regarding Android devices, price is always the first determining factor, and expectations are high in the Oppo Reno10 Pro+ 5G price range.

I would say this is a device for those looking to level up their mobile photography. The zoom and portrait functions are uncompromising standouts. It’s a lot for social posts alone, but it would be an excellent companion shooter for blogs or reporting.
