If there is a giant monster battle in Kuala Lumpur, will we be able to see it?

Imagine a giant monster (kaiju) from one of those special effects Japanese TV (Tokusatsu) shows appearing in the middle of Kuala Lumpur.

The earth violently shakes as the kaiju emerges, and a roar confirms it.

While some would run away, most would try to catch a glimpse of the terror. Phones would be raised as social media post opportunity overcomes personal safety.

An otherworldly grunt comes in a flash of swirling lights, and a giant of light (Ultraman) appears to defeat the monster and save the day.

Assuming the battle occurs in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, would those in the city get the best view of the ensuing battle? Can you see Ultraman defeat the monster of the week from the streets of Kuala Lumpur?

Based on a 2022 statistic, Kuala Lumpur is now home to approximately 2,095 high-rise buildings (at least 23m tall). About 475 are sky scrappers (at least 100m tall).

For example, the once iconic Tabung Haji Tower is 152m tall, and the Sky Bridge connecting the PETRONAS Twin Towers is 170m above the ground.

Now that we have a reference point, let’s return to the battle.

The first Ultraman measures only 40m tall, and his most formidable opponent, Zetton, measures 60m tall.

The tallest Ultraman (with a fixed height) is Ultraman Scott (from Ultraman USA). His official height is 82 meters. Most kaiju of the week are no taller than him.

So, theoretically, an Ultraman can walk underneath the Sky Bridge while standing straight.

In other words, no. If there is a giant monster battle in Kuala Lumpur, most folks, especially those in the city, would probably not be able to see it as most buildings in the city are tall.

Bonus trivia: According to Google Maps, the geographical centre of Kuala Lumpur is in a park just north of The National Museum.
