Bringing the Apple TV along on vacation is a good idea

After many years of theorising what an excellent idea to bring the Apple TV along on vacation is, I finally did it on my recent trip to LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort.

For the trip, I brought the power cord and HDMI cable as well. The Apple TV uses a standard power cord with a figure-of-8 (C7/C8) connector and HDMI cable. These are easily replaced or bought at the destination if necessary.

Bringing along a network cable could also be a good idea because some hotel’s wifi can be challenging to log in to, and a wired connection would provide a better connection anyway (if available).

Plugging in an Apple TV that has already been set up at home was easy at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort Hotel. I packed a power strip, which makes plugging in the device to power effortless, and the HDMI port on the TV in the hotel room was very accessible

While connectivity and accessibility would differ from hotel to hotel, it is generally possible to connect the Apple TV to the in-room TV with some finessing.

Bringing the Apple TV to a theme park resort seemed silly, but I got a lot of use out of it during my stay. It was nice to go back to the room and see the show I wanted after a long day at the theme park and venturing into town.

The Apple TV was easier to use than any screen casting feature on hotel TVs that I have experienced. The Apple TV remote charges using the same cable as my iPhone, so there is no need for batteries. It connects to the Apple TV through Bluetooth, so my arms can still be under the covers when browsing for what show to watch.

My biggest problem with travelling with the Apple TV was the possibility of accidentally leaving it behind. The Apple TV has none of the security features of Apple’s portable devices. It doesn’t have Find My, and, to the best of my knowledge, there is no way to secure it on the device or remotely. These features are on my wish list for the next iteration of the Apple TV

This is one of the many posts I plan to make about my experience at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort Hotel. My stay lasted for two nights, from 2024-04-19 to 2024-04-21.
