Oppo Reno13 F 5G: The Sensible Choice

As having a smart device becomes necessary, choosing a current model for compatibility is essential. Because of this, the Oppo Reno 13 F 5G is a better recommendation than more high-end devices.

Like a car, a smart device is an asset; it is useful and, in some situations, compulsory, but it does not increase in value. At the same time, it does not increase in value, and its lifespan is limited by support, so it becomes useless once the device is no longer updated and compatible.

Because of this, getting the best smart device one can afford makes sense. However, in most cases, when it comes to cutting-edge devices, buyers end up paying more than what they need for features that are not yet matured. After 5 years, the cycle begins again once it is no longer supported.

This is why a smart device like the Oppo Reno13 F 5G is the sensible choice.

At a starting price of RM1,399, the Reno13 F 5G has all the practical features of the latest software, a competent processor, a larger-than-average battery, a contemporary display and cameras, and some of the more fun and useful AI features. All in a package that is pleasing to the eyes and hands.

Even better, some telcos offer the device for free with a contract.

I had the device for a hectic two weeks. I appreciate that I could uninstall the dozen pre-installed apps, avoid installing recommended apps quickly, and remove recommendations altogether. The whole process is noticeably faster, too.

Of the three Reno13 F 5G configurations, I received the one with 12GB of memory and 512GB of storage. There was no way I could fill up the space in such a short time, and, being vigilant at closing apps, I could have survived on 8GB of RAM.

Of the three colours available, I received the “Luminous Blue”, which is more interesting than the plain looking “Graphite Black” but more subtle than the loud “Plume Purple”. I like how it looked like the camera island was glowing.

One of the features touted for the Oppo Reno13 F 5G was its handful of AI tools. These were fewer than the ones found on higher-end models and were mainly for enhancing photos and videos. Nevertheless, they are helpful, and I did not miss the ones that are not there.

However, the feature I appreciated the most was the larger 5.8Ah battery combined with the + 45W SUPERVOOC Flash Charge. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 mobile platform that the device is built on is capable and needs power; with the combination of fast charging and high battery capacity, it feels like it could last forever.

I have no complaints with the Oppo Reno13 F 5G camera. It is more than good enough for most people. The photos are contemporary in quality. They are also integrated with AI tools that could improve how they look. The images were soft when taken in lower light conditions, but it is only noticeable when I zoom in.

To Buy Or Not To Buy

If you are someone who appreciates taking photos and videos and sharing them, needs a smart device for all those apps, and does not do anything extremely tasking on their device like doing a dissertation or editing a movie, the Oppo Reno13 F 5G is a good pick, especially if you can get it free with a contract at a telco.

But if taking photos and making videos are not your thing and you only share them occasionally, you could look at something more affordable like the Oppo A3 Pro 5G.
