Kinokuniya opened its second highly anticipated and celebrated branch in Malaysia on 2025 September 4, at the Damansara Heights Pavilion. Despite the oft-repeated fallacy that ‘no one reads anymore’, hundreds, if not thousands, flocked to the newly opened bookshop.
For the grand opening, the shop featured artwork by Katsuya Terada on their windows, gift tote bags and membership cards.
Kinokuniya is renowned for its relaxing atmosphere, offering a diverse selection of books, comics, manga, and Japanese stationery. It also sells local art and stationery products via consignment.
Because the shop was new, most of the books were not wrapped. This causes the shop to be used irresponsibly as a library. Within a couple of weeks of the shop opening, most of the out-facing books display curled covers and wavy pages, likely due to mishandling.
Kinokuniya Damansara Heights Pavilion opens daily from 10am to 10pm. It is located on the 4th floor at the far end, which was the bare second phase of the mall, far from the rest of the mall.
