Sony World Photography Awards 2026: National and Regional Winners Revealed

The Sony World Photography Awards has unveiled the winners of its 2026 National and Regional Awards, celebrating outstanding photography from around the globe.

This year, over 430,000 images were submitted by photographers from more than 200 countries, spanning open, professional, and student competitions.

Notable new categories introduced this year include the European Student Award and the India National Award.

In the professional competition:

In the Latin America Professional Award, Citlali Fabian from Mexico took first place for her series “Bilha, Stories of my Sisters.” María Fernanda García Freire from Ecuador received second place for “Study on Flying,” while André Tezza from Brazil earned third for “Everyday Structures.”

Avijit Ghosh from India received the India National Award for his project “Keepers of Mangroves.”

Hayate Kurisu from Japan was awarded the Japan National Award for his work “Living Photographs.”

In the student competition, Teresa Halbreiter from Germany won the European Student Award for her project “Stillgestanden.”

In the open competition, Heun Jung Kim from South Korea claimed first place, while Malaysia’s Eng Tong Tan was recognized among the national winners.

The national and first-place regional winners will be showcased at Somerset House in London from 17 April to 4 May 2026. The overall winners of the main competitions will be announced on 16 April.
