Sony has released a system software update for the PlayStation 5 Pro that upgrades its PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology. The update, which began rolling out on March 16, aims to improve image stability and clarity across several titles.
Key Improvements
The upgraded PSSR uses a refined AI library to analyse pixels, resulting in:
- Sharper Details: Improved rendering of fine elements like hair, grass, and environmental textures.
- Enhanced Stability: Reduced flickering and afterimage effects during gameplay.
- Better Performance: More consistent framerates when using high-fidelity visual modes.
Supported Games
Several high-profile games have already integrated the update or will receive patches shortly:
- Available Now: Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill f, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Control, Alan Wake 2, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Resident Evil Requiem.
- Coming Soon: Crimson Desert (March 19), Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077.
Users can also manually enable the new PSSR for all supported PS5 Pro games through the console’s system settings, though results may vary by title.
