Samsung has partnered with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) to make dozens of the museum’s famous works available on digital home displays.
Starting March 19, owners of Samsung’s “The Frame” and “The Frame Pro” televisions can access a collection of 34 artworks from the museum’s permanent holdings. SFMOMA is the first West Coast institution to join the platform.
The debut collection includes several 20th-century masterpieces:
- Diego Rivera: The Flower Carrier (1935)
- Henri Matisse: Femme au chapeau (1905)
- Jackson Pollock: Guardians of the Secret (1943)
- Wayne Thiebaud: Display Cakes (1963)
- Piet Mondrian: New York City 2 (1941)
The partnership also introduces Robert Rauschenberg’s works to the platform for the first time.
The TVs are designed to mimic the appearance of physical art using matte displays to reduce glare and customizable frames that resemble traditional bezels.
SFMOMA Director Christopher Bedford stated that the initiative aims to connect more people with modern art, reaching audiences who may not be able to visit the museum in person.
The SFMOMA collection is now available to subscribers of the Samsung Art Store, which currently features works from over 80 cultural partners worldwide.
