Nikon Singapore has announced the release of the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II, a new fast telephoto zoom lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
This second-generation lens weighs 998g, making it approximately 26% lighter than its predecessor. To achieve this weight reduction, Nikon modified the front lens group and removed several mechanical components from the internal moving groups. The lens features a new autofocus drive system that is reportedly 3.5 times faster than the previous model, offering improved tracking for moving subjects like athletes.
The optical design incorporates specialised elements to reduce colour fringing and includes anti-reflective coatings to minimise ghosting and flare. It offers a minimum focus distance of 0.38m at its widest angle and includes built-in vibration reduction to help stabilise handheld shots. Additionally, the lens is the first in its line to feature a tripod foot compatible with Arca-Swiss mounting systems. The internal zoom mechanism keeps the lens length constant during operation, helping maintain its dust- and drip-resistant sealing.
