Canon Tops Camera Sales for 23 Years

Canon Inc. was the top seller in the interchangeable-lens digital camera market for 23 years, from 2003 to 2025.

Canon said its market share was due to the expanded EOS R mirrorless camera system. In 2025, Canon released the EOS R50 V, a small APS-C camera designed for video, and the full-frame EOS R6 Mark III. Seven new RF lenses were also released.

Canon became the leading seller in 2003 after releasing the EOS Digital Rebel. The company later focused on mirrorless cameras with the 2024 launch of the EOS R1 and the earlier EOS R5, its first camera to support 8K video.
