Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Receive Enhanced Upscaling with April 7 Title Update

Ubisoft will release an upgraded version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for the PS5 Pro version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows on April 7.

Arriving with Title Update 1.1.9, this update replaces the original PSSR technology used since the game’s launch.

The new upscaler is designed to improve image clarity and stability across the game’s Performance, Balanced, and Quality modes.

Technical Art Director Robert Foriel stated the update focuses on reducing visual artefacts caused by in-game motion. The technology aims to better preserve fine details in complex elements like moving vegetation, particles, and ray-traced lighting, which often appear noisy or blurred during real-time upscaling.

According to Ubisoft Technical Architect Nicolas Lopez, implementing the new version required minimal code changes compared to the initial PSSR integration.

The update will be available to all PS5 Pro players starting at 7:00 am Pacific Time on the release date.
