
There is a need for a digital community platform. An amalgamation of social media and a message board. A place where enthusiasts can share their passion and knowledge, but in an easy to navigate, intuitive, and visual driven platform.
That was my main takeaway from doing the story about KC Tan and the maker community in Malaysia. There is a need for a knowledge pool that is as archivable and searchable as a message board but is welcoming and is conducive to visual-based content like social media.
Facebook just does not cut it. A lot of Malaysians use it, sure, but it cannot function as a knowledge pool. It’s a stream of information. It is useless as a platform to pool knowledge to share.
On the subject of the Maker community in Malaysia. It is heart-warming to know that they are sprouting and taking root in the country. But, like KC said in the story, one of the things needed to make the community stronger is to have that platform and knowledge pool.
