It has been made official. The price of the PS5 Digital Edition will be RM 1,869, and the PS5 with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc will be RM 2,399. Both versions of the console will be available at Sony Centres, official stores, are retail partners on December 11.
Honestly, the prices of the consoles are not bad. I am surprised how relatively affordable they are. But then I start to realise that if I want to play these games at their best, I need a better TV and sound system. And then there are the games.
The selection of launch day games is concise:
Astro’s Playroom is pre-installed on the console and is the best game to demonstrate the new capabilities of the new DualSense Wireless Controller.
Demon’s Souls, the most highly anticipated launch title for the system will be available for RM299.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales comes in a standard and Ultimate Edition is the best game currently available and is exclusive on the system. It is RM209 for the standard and RM299 for the Ultimate Edition.
Sackboy A Big Adventure, which I don’t know much about and who sked for more Sackboy anyway, is RM249.
Things are starting to get expensive. I could buy a few good Gunpla kits or a couple of Warhammer units at the price of a single game. How are kids supposed to afford this? And we haven’t even take a look at the accessories.
There are plenty of accessories to go with that brand new PS5 too:
A second DualSense Wireless Controller will set you back RM349.
A PULSE 3D wireless headset with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones is RM469.
An HD Camera, so people can look at the person who bought all this despite the pandemic and the economic slump, is RM279.
Media Remote for movies and streaming media is RM149.
Finally, to charge those controllers, the DualSense Charging Station is RM149.
Looking at the launch line-up as a whole, I think I’ll wait for Sony to release a redesigned, smaller, and perhaps more affordable version of the PS5. After all, the kinks have been worked out and the game library is more established. Because right now, who can afford all that?
