LEGO VIDIYO: I love it, but not for the reasons you may think

In January LEGO released LEGO VIDIYO, their music centric AR enhanced line of playsets that seems to combine the best of DOTS and Hidden Sides themes. Almost half a year in, the AR powered Hidden Sides theme is being retired, the tile crazy DOTS theme is heavily discounted, and the VIDIYO theme is still not listed in the Official LEGO Malaysia website nor is it available on store shelves here.

So why do I love it?

Just as LEGO is the world’s largest manufacturer of tires a fun trivia fact, did you know that LEGO has been developing and building the largest creative, kid-safe community in the world, online, since 1997?

The ad for LEGO Life app has been on the instruction manual of just about every contemporary LEGO set. Even I am guilty of ignoring it. But, the point is, can you think of another company that has been working on a kid-safe online community? Let alone for the past 24 years?

If anyone could make a kid-safe music video maker with kid-friendly social platform where kids can share and enjoy each other’s creations, it would be LEGO.

However, because the whole thing is tied to a toy line and the availability is limited, it will not reach the heights of other more open (and raunchier) social platforms. But you got to love LEGO’s persistence.

Still, I wish the theme is available here in Malaysia.
