Samsung says its SmartThings platform now supports direct connection with 25 IKEA Matter-over-Thread smart home devices.
On April 21, Samsung said the supported IKEA devices include smart bulbs, plugs, sensors, and a scroll-wheel remote. The company said users no longer need both an IKEA smart home hub and a SmartThings hub to connect these devices, as they can now connect directly to a SmartThings hub.
According to Samsung, the devices also work with Samsung appliances such as TVs, air conditioners and washing machines, as well as with third-party devices and protocols that SmartThings supports. Samsung said the update lets users use IKEA door sensors with SmartThings Family Care.
Samsung said IKEA air quality, temperature and humidity sensors can send data to SmartThings, which compares the readings with recommended sleep ranges and produces a sleep environment report. The company said users can also create routines, such as turning on an air conditioner’s dehumidification mode when humidity rises, and receive alerts from water leak sensors.
The company said the scroll wheel remote can adjust lighting brightness and colour temperature, and said blind control support will come later in 2026.
Samsung said it was the first company to adopt Thread 1.4, a low-power, short-range networking technology used in smart home systems.
Executive vice president of SmartThings, AI Platform Centre at Samsung Electronics, Jaeyeon Jung, said the company planned to expand the SmartThings ecosystem through partnerships.
Samsung said availability and timing may vary by market.
