NGV International will present the Cartier exhibition in Melbourne from June 12 to October 4. Visit Victoria announced these details on April 16, 2026.
The exhibition features over 300 items from the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Cartier Collection, including tiaras, necklaces, brooches, timepieces, and design drawings. Notable pieces were previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor, Rihanna, and Wallis Simpson.
The exhibition traces Cartier’s history from its founding by Louis-François Cartier in 1847 through its expansion under Louis, Pierre, and Jacques Cartier. Highlights include the “Garland style,” “Tutti Frutti” jewels, and a section dedicated to Creative Director Jeanne Toussaint, who served from 1933 to 1970.
Highlights include the 1902 “Scroll tiara,” the 1907 “Sun tiara” with a 32-carat fancy intense yellow diamond, a 1951 ruby-and-diamond necklace, and the 1949 “Panther sapphire clip brooch” featuring a 152.35-carat cabochon sapphire. The final section showcases over 20 tiaras.
Studio Sabine Marcelis and CLOUD designed the exhibition space. Admission fees apply. The Cartier Collection, established in 1983, holds about 3,500 pieces from the 1860s to the 2000s.
