Samsung Electronics announced validation of 5G Power Class 1 for fixed wireless access on virtualised RAN with Qualcomm technology.

Samsung stated that the lab test used its virtualised RAN, 3.7 GHz Massive MIMO radios, and a Qualcomm X85 chipset. Samsung reported up to 10 times higher cell-edge uplink throughput than Power Class 1.5 and up to 40% more coverage.

Samsung stated it completed the test at its R&D lab and later conducted field tests on a U.S. Tier 1 operator’s network. Samsung announced that commercial availability is expected in 2027.
