IHG Surpasses 200 Canadian Hotels, Plans Further Expansion

IHG Hotels & Resorts surpasses 200 open hotels in Canada as of July 6, 2026, and outlines further national expansion driven by a growing development pipeline.

IHG reported that its Canadian portfolio exceeded 200 open hotels across the country, marking what it described as a major milestone in its global growth strategy. The company cited strong 2026 tourism expectations from Destination Canada, including a forecast 6% year-over-year rise in visitor spending to more than $140 billion.

The company said nearly 40 additional Canadian hotels were in its development pipeline. Six hotels were scheduled to open in 2026 under the Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites brands in Barrie, Aurora East, Pembroke and Woodstock. IHG said these would add to seven hotels that opened in 2025, including a Crowne Plaza in Toronto and four Staybridge Suites properties.

IHG said its growth in Canada also included the introduction of newer brands. It reported that voco hotels had signed its first Canadian properties in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Niagara Falls. The Garner brand was expected to debut in Canada in 2027 with three hotels planned in Red Deer, Medicine Hat and near Calgary International Airport.
