Proton receives ISO 50001: 2018 energy management certification

Proton became the first Malaysian passenger vehicle manufacturer to receive the ISO 50001: 2018 certification for Energy Management Systems on April 13, 2026.

The British Standards Institution awarded the certification for manufacturing operations at the Tanjung Malim plant in Perak. The facility has an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles. The company stated it is targeting a 2% annual improvement in energy efficiency.

Implemented initiatives at the plant included solar photovoltaic deployment, LED lighting upgrades, and chiller system optimisation. The company reported its solar array reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 48,453 tonnes between 2021 and December 2025.

Production areas covered by the energy management framework include stamping, body, painting, and final assembly.
