Apple TV Airs MLS Match Shot Entirely on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple TV will stream LA Galaxy vs Houston Dynamo FC from Carson, California, on May 23, captured entirely on an iPhone 17 Pro as part of an MLS partnership.

Apple said the broadcast marked the first major professional live sporting event captured entirely on iPhone. The match streamed from Dignity Health Sports Park. It took place before the MLS regular season paused for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America.

Apple said iPhone 17 Pro captured team warmups, player introductions, in-net goal angles, and stadium footage. Cameras were positioned throughout the venue. Apple said the setup enabled new perspectives during the match.

Apple first used iPhone in a live sports broadcast workflow in September 2025. During a “Friday Night Baseball” game, iPhone 17 Pro captured select moments and in-stadium footage. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum added one broadcast-used iPhone to its permanent collection.

Apple said iPhone 17 Pro features three 48MP Fusion cameras. Apple said they offer the equivalent of eight lenses. Apple said Apple Log 2 was used for the weekend’s broadcast.

Apple expanded iPhone use across additional sports broadcasts after the 2025 baseball production. Apple included the MLS Cup in 2025. Apple said it further integrated the technology into 2026 “Friday Night Baseball” and MLS productions.

Apple TV subscribers in more than 100 countries and regions receive every MLS match. Apple said coverage included analysis, exclusive content, and no blackouts. Apple said new subscribers could receive a one-week free trial.
