Moxy Hotels opened the 281-room Moxy Budapest Downtown in central Budapest, Hungary, in a former dance institution.
Moxy Hotels is part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of more than 30 brands. The hotel was located on Kazinczy Street, in one of Budapest’s nightlife and cultural districts.
The hotel offered 281 guest rooms with modern comfort, functional technology and a workspace, according to the company. It also provided a 24/7 fitness centre and two purpose-built meeting and event spaces. Guests checked in at Bar Moxy, where they received a welcome cocktail. The lobby featured a large graffiti artwork by local artist Áron Hidvégi.
Moxy Budapest Downtown included a rooftop bar, Saddle & Sky, which the company said was inspired by Empress Elisabeth’s interest in horse riding. Management said additional restaurant concepts at street level were planned. The hotel positioned its public areas as places for social interaction and curated programming.
Hungarian real estate developer Forestay Group developed the project. Forestay said the hotel formed part of a broader plan to revitalise central Budapest and transform Kazinczy Street into a mixed-use destination. The company said the district would combine hospitality, gastronomy, culture and community spaces. Forestay cited an ESG-driven approach focused on sustainability and community integration.
The project received BREEAM Excellent certification, according to the companies. They said sustainability features included energy-efficient building systems, solar panels and more than 80 electric vehicle charging stations. The scheme incorporated 81 mature trees and more than 10,000 perennial ornamental plants and shrubs throughout the hotel grounds.
Moxy stated that the brand offered small but efficiently designed bedrooms and public social spaces, such as the Lounge and Library. It positioned the brand for guests who prioritised experiences during travel. The hotel was part of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. Members could earn benefits,, including free nights and recognition of elite status.
