Samsung, MGH Study Galaxy Watch for GLP-1 Treatment Monitoring

Samsung Electronics and Massachusetts General Hospital launch a study in Korea on May 28, 2026, to assess the Galaxy Watch8 for monitoring muscle loss during GLP-1 therapy.

The study enrolled 100 adults beginning weight-loss medication treatment and divided them into an intervention group using Galaxy Watch8 and a control group receiving standard GLP-1RA care. Researchers used clinical-grade DXA scans for comparison.

Participants in the intervention group used Galaxy Watch8 to measure body composition with Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis, track physical activity and receive personalised exercise guidance. The study compared physiological changes with those in the standard-care group.

Researchers used biometric data such as body composition, activity levels and heart rate from Galaxy Watch and Samsung Health. They examined whether wearable-based insights could support healthier daily habits and help preserve muscle mass.

Samsung and the MGH Diabetes Research Centre previously collaborated on digital health research using Galaxy Watch and Samsung Health, including studies on Advanced Glycation End Products. Samsung also worked with other institutions on vasovagal syncope and sleep apnea detection.
