Samsung Electronics and LG Uplus sign an MOU in Seoul on May 27 to jointly research ISAC technology for 6G using the existing wireless communications infrastructure.
Samsung Research, within Samsung’s Device eXperience Division, led development efforts to secure core 6G-era technologies, while LG Uplus oversaw validation using its mobile network operations experience.
The companies planned to test ISAC performance on existing 5G networks and in the 7 GHz band to assess feasibility for real-world deployment in varied environments.
ISAC technology used wireless signals from communications infrastructure to detect objects’ speed, distance and direction, without dedicated sensors such as LiDAR or radar, and applied to both indoor and outdoor settings.
The International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector designated ISAC as one of three key 6G usage scenarios, and Samsung continued broader 6G collaboration through white papers and joint demonstrations with global partners.
