Sony Future Filmmaker Awards Opens Submissions For 2027 Competition

Creo and Sony launch free submissions for the 2027 Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, introducing a Meta-presented Immersive category ahead of the December 15, 2026 entry deadline.

The competition features six submission categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Immersive, Animation, Student, and Future Format. Entry requirements specify film lengths ranging between two and 20 minutes depending on the chosen category.

Winners in select categories receive prizes including Sony Digital Imaging equipment, Meta VR devices, and cash awards up to $5,000 USD. The Future Format category requires vertical 9:16 aspect ratio submissions, with the winner receiving $2,500 USD.

Shortlisted filmmakers will attend a four-day industry program from June 7-10, 2027, at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, Los Angeles. A gala ceremony on June 10, 2027, will reveal the category winners.

Creo and Sony also brought back the Sustainability Prize, which awards $5,000 USD, equipment, and promotional coverage to a winning short film.
