Apple TV has picked up the new psychological horror drama series “Ascension” from executive producer Alfonso Cuarón, starring and executive produced by Caitríona Balfe, on August 11, 2026.

The one-hour series is inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel “Last Days”. Natalie Erika James and Christian White serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with James directing. The screenplays are written by James, White, Alfonso Cuarón, and Carlos Cuarón.

The story centres on Rose, a documentary filmmaker investigating a 20th-century cult called the Church of Ascension.

Apple Studios produces the series with Anonymous Content and Cuarón’s Esperanto Filmoj. Executive producers include Gabriela Rodriguez, Richard Schwartz, Steve Golin, David Levine, and Zack Hayden.
