McDonald’s Malaysia Graduates 359 Vocational Academy Students

McDonald’s Malaysia graduated 359 students at its sixth vocational academy convocation ceremony at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on August 18, 2026.

The 18-month program combines 30% classroom instruction with 70% practical training at McDonald’s restaurants. Participants receive a Level 3 Malaysian Skills Certificate upon completion, with options to pursue Level 4 qualifications.

The academy has produced nearly 5,500 graduates since its establishment in 2018 alongside the Department of Skills Development. Malaysia recorded a youth unemployment rate of 10.2% in June 2026, representing about 292,200 individuals.

McDonald’s Malaysia Managing Director Azmir Jaafar stated that approximately 80% of graduates remain employed with the company. He added that more than 250 graduates have advanced into supervisory and management roles.

Deputy Director-General of Education Zainal Abas stated that industry partnerships support youth transitioning into employment. McDonald’s Malaysia also operates internal training programs including Hamburger University and university apprenticeship collaborations.
