ROG, XREAL Announce Global Availability of AR Glasses

ASUS Republic of Gamers and XREAL on May 15 announced global pre-orders for the ROG XREAL R1 gaming augmented reality glasses, with shipping scheduled to begin June 1.

The companies said the ROG XREAL R1 is the first gaming AR glasses model with a 240Hz micro-OLED display. They said the device features a 171-inch virtual screen, 0.01 millisecond response time, native Three Degrees of Freedom support, and integration with the ROG Ally handheld.

According to the release, pre-orders opened at 12 am CDT on May 15. ASUS Republic of Gamers said the glasses support real-time controls through the ROG Ally, including brightness, screen size, aspect ratio, visual effects, tint level, frame-rate boost, spatial locker and 3D mode.

The release said the device also works with the ROG Control Dock and ASUS DisplayWidget Centre software for keyboard-and-mouse control. It said users can manage virtual screen settings, spatial layouts and GamePlus features, including Dynamic Crosshairs and timers.

ASUS Republic of Gamers said the glasses use the XREAL X1 spatial computing chip and support Anchor and Follow modes. The release said the device provides real-time 2D-to-3D conversion, a 57-degree field of view, 3 millisecond motion-to-photon latency, peak brightness of 700 nits, 106% sRGB colour gamut, three-level adjustable lens transparency, digital IPD adjustment, Sound by Bose audio and a weight of 91 grams.
