Sony Develops RIALTO 65 Sensor Block

Sony said in Malaysia on June 4, 2026, it is developing the RIALTO 65, a 65mm-format image sensor block for VENICE 2, with release planned in the first half of 2027.

The company said the sensor block expands the VENICE 2 digital cinema camera to 65mm format and can mount directly or connect separately by cable. Sony said it preserves compatibility with the existing VENICE 2 ecosystem.

Sony said the sensor has about 2.2 times the light-receiving area of a full-frame sensor. It said the sensor measures about 64.60 mm diagonally, with 53.75 mm width, 35.83 mm height and a 3:2 aspect ratio.

The company said the sensor supports 9.6K 3:2 open-gate recording and multiple readout modes. Sony said the modes are intended to support various 65mm-format lenses, including some with narrower image circles.

Sony said it plans to exhibit the under-development RIALTO 65 at the Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles starting June 5, 2026. The company said product name, specifications and exhibition details remain subject to change without notice.
