Sony says in Malaysia on June 8, 2026, that it is marking its 80th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of its Alpha camera system.
Sony said the Alpha system began on June 5, 2006, with the launch of the Alpha 100 DSLR, built on Konica Minolta camera technology. It listed major milestones, including the Alpha 900 in 2008, E-mount and NEX mirrorless cameras in 2010, and the Alpha 7 series in 2013.
Sony said the Alpha system now includes more than 80 native E-mount lenses. It said the recently announced Alpha 7R VI has a 66.8-megapixel full-frame sensor and AI-assisted autofocus.
Sony said the Alpha 7R VI camera and FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS lens are available for pre-order until June 14, 2026. The statement was issued by Sony Malaysia on June 11, 2026.
