Samsung Electronics and Abbott launch an XR-assisted blood donation program in South Korea, using Galaxy XR during a June 2 Korean Red Cross campaign at Samsung Digital City.
Samsung and Abbott said they conducted South Korea’s first XR-powered blood donation campaign on June 2 at Samsung Digital City in Suwon. The event was held with the Korean Red Cross in recognition of World Blood Donor Day.
Donors used Galaxy XR during donations, viewing meditation content in a Zen garden-themed environment. Samsung said the system used gaze-based interaction without controllers or hand gestures for three to five minutes.
The companies said they are preparing additional activations in the United States and Malaysia. They said a four-day blood drive is scheduled for June 15-18 at Augmented World Expo in Long Beach, California.
Samsung and Abbott also said the program will be showcased later in June at the International Society of Blood Transfusion Congress in Kuala Lumpur. Samsung said more than 100 blood bank decision-makers will have an opportunity to review the use cases.
